4Kids
Entertainment - the licensing and marketing agent behind such powerhouse
properties as Yu-Gi-Oh!® and Cabbage Patch
Kids® - will continue
serving as the AKC's exclusive worldwide licensing agent for the AKC's
extensive collection of imagery and trademarks in all merchandise
categories. Since joining forces in 2003, 4Kids Entertainment and the
American Kennel Club have been at the forefront of the burgeoning pet
product industry thanks to their comprehensive focus on building the AKC
into a premiere retail dog brand. 4Kids has successfully established the
AKC as the "best in breed" in pet products by brokering multi-year deals
with such industry leaders as JAKKS Pacific (toys and treats), renowned
designer Barry Kieselstein-Cord (luxury dog accessories and jewelry),
Oster Professional Products (dog grooming), Sherpa's Pet Trading Company
(dog carriers) and Flexi-Mat (dog beds). This renewed partnership will
enable 4Kids and the AKC to continue participating in the pet industry
boom with plans to expand the AKC brand into such categories as pet
cleaning products, pet safety products and collectible art work.
"Our organization has long prided
itself on providing the true gold standard in dog care," added Gail
Miller, Director of Brand Development of the American Kennel Club.
"That's why we are pleased to extend our agreement with 4Kids
Entertainment, a leading force in children's and family licensing and
entertainment. Given the ever-growing pet product industry, our unique
relationship with 4Kids creates more opportunities to provide dog lovers
worldwide with quality products as well as promote public awareness and
appreciation of the wonderful world of purebred dogs."

SHOW ME THE MONEY: spychips!
PETA
GRANTS: Here’s a thought for you. In 2003 PETA had
over fifteen
million two hundred ninety nine thousand dollars in assets.
Put another way, that’s $15,299,586.00. (PETA is that non-profit
that many of us donated to before we found out what they
really were.)
From 1999 through 2000, PETA contributed $592,594.00 to The
Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine.
What is the definition of money laundering? Does just shifting
it to another non-profit sound close? Oh it is all legal.
But does that make it okay?
You decide, and draw your own analogies. What does the The
Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine do? According to
http://www.activistcash.com/
it is “a fanatical animal rights group that seeks to remove eggs,
milk, meat, and seafood from the American diet, and to eliminate the
use of animals in scientific research. Despite its operational and
financial ties to other animal activist groups and its close
relationship with violent zealots, PCRM has successfully duped the
media and much of the general public into believing that its
pronouncements about the superiority of vegetarian-only diets
represent the opinion of the medical community.”
Newsweek said in Feb. 2004 “Less than 5 percent of PCRM™ members are physicians.”
The point? Just that clever marketing and a really big budget
can have most of us believing in little green men from Mars.
AKC SUSPENSIONS?

Holt vs Cooke PAWS
Debate
is an ongoing debate over debate and who
stands where. Holt didn't show up.
After
125 years AKC seeks to impose "license" fee on over 3,000 judges.
Is this "about the money"? Do such fees open non-profit
questions? Now you can read the actual

AKC's big NY Times advert, here is the factual information on the ad
campaign which is not solely in support of PAWS as has been alleged.
The 2005
American Kennel Club print campaign is a series of 26
one-page black and white ads in the New York Times Magazine. These
issue-oriented advertisements are aimed at the NY Times Magazine’s
readers, corporate and legislative leaders, opinion influencers and
academics, as well as the general public.
Each ad focuses on a specific
program and/or initiative of the AKC that protects the welfare and
sport of purebred dogs. The first ad introduced the series with a
historical overview of the AKC. The second insertion covered AKC’s
involvement in simplifying air travel for dogs while subsequent ads
focus on the AKC’s Companion Animal Recovery program, Investigations
and Inspections department, Canine Health Foundation and the DOGNY
fund raising / public art project.
Featuring the tagline "We're more than champion dogs... We're
the dog's champion," the ad campaign is
designed to clearly establish and reinforce AKC as the "authority
and advocate" of purebred dogs.

AKC at HUNTE Corp. Conference (scroll to middle of page)
Should AKC Attend HUNTE Corp. conferences?
87% said NO!!!
These
selected comments reflect interesting viewpoints.
Nona Bauer:
AKC should NOT attend commercial breeders' conferences! It
send a clear message that AKC in some way supports those
operations. Their attendance only serves to reinforce the
idea that AKC's primary concern is those registration fees
and not the welfare of the purebred dog.
Bonnie
Hale
NO - There are enough "show
mills" and BYBs who raise less than sterling dogs, why
should AKC have anything to do with commercial breeders ?
Virginia
Dimick: I do not support AKC promoting Commercial
Breeders, (who only breed for money, not for quality dogs or
their welfare) or attending any of their functions.
Stella
Carter
NO - Oh
sure, like attending a crime so you cold maybe talk the
robber out of doing it. Who would buy that rationale?
Karen
Sandvold: NO - AKC should not appear to support
commercial breeders. Either AKC will lose even more
credibility or Puppy Mills will gain credibility - or both.
If AKC continues to support the Puppy Mills, they should not
be surprised to find a more ethical registry surfacing.
Rene
Allegrini:
NO!! It's about time AKC stopped
worrying about the money they'd be loosing to other
registries and worry about the preservation of the purebred
dog and the many fanciers that have deicated their lives to
their preservation. These same people have remained loyal
to a fault to the AKC.
Harold Hagar
YES - Why
shouldn't they attend? Do you think the AKC is bad the
reason they should not attend the HUNTE Corporation
meetings?
Charbatt:
NO!!! When will the madness end?????
Pamela Liddy
UNDECIDED - I am torn on
this question - I in no way want AKC to even appear to
support them but how else can they keep apprised of what is
going on?
Tam Cordingley :
I feel we can't hope to educate and, incidentally keep an
eye on the puppy millers, unless AKC has a presence. I also
feel inspections should be beefed up and the so called high
volume breeders should be held also to high standards of
identification and care.
September 2004
Delegates Meeting re AKC Booth. Ricky Blackman, Clumber Spaniel Club Of America Delegate, asked for AKC’s justification for having a booth at the Hunte Corporation conference. Tom Sharpe responded as follows “…. They will have about 1,500 breeders at this conference. Many of them use the AKC services. I’ll be out there. We also have Steve Robinson, the Director Of Executive Inspections. We’re there to reach out to people we see day in and day out doing their normal jobs, while we are doing inspections. We talk about our service as an educational component of the inspection program. Does that answer the question?”
There was
discussion on another matter and then Pat Laurens returned to the Hunte
Corp. by noting “at least one board member is listed as speaking at
that conference….” She goes on to state that she would prefer the
booth not be there and “I would like to go on record as saying I
don’t think we should be giving too much credibility to broker
conferences.”
Dennis Sprung,
President immediately closed the discussion and the meeting adjourned.
How do you
feel about this? Should the AKC attend and speak at dog broker and
commercial breeder conferences sponsored by Hunte Corporation?

conventions, go here

Thank you to all who took time
to vote. Your response was overwhelming! Good points were made and we agree
that AKC should oversee that end of its business income if in fact, that
is now to be the primary registration income. It appears that is
the case so in that regard, everyone would probably agree that they
should do more than maintain a presence but should in fact, hold High
Volume Breeders to the same standard as Show Breeders!
