PEDIGREE FRAUD – THE STUD BOOK

More On Lofranco Kuvasz - Part Four

dateline June 2006:  Mail and calls still coming in.  We are having to pick the most well documented and that included this exchange regarding the Kuvasz Stud Book.  Darla is still exploring her options to cause AKC to clear the Kuvasz stud book.

A Letter To The Editor brought about an Interesting Exchange and More Information

Laurie Soutar sirius-supply@sympatico.ca wrote  <<I was reading through your articles on AKC registration fraud, and I just wanted to point out some inaccuracies in the one about the Kuvasz (I don't have Kuvasz, and don't know anything about the case, but there are some odd statements in that article.....) <<

We thought it best for Darla to reply and she graciously has done so.  It is so incredible, we don’t blame Laurie for her skepticism and as Editor, I admit to a poor job of assembling Darla’s information.  So let’s let Darla respond to Laurie’s statements which speak for the confusion in the minds of many readers.

Darla - Hi Laura, The application was "AKC Application For Registration Of Dog Imported Into USA Owned By Resident Of USA" The dog in question was owned by a resident of Canada showing the owner's address in Canada.

"A dog owned by a Canadian showing an address in Canada is ineligible for registration on the above IMPORT application."

Laurie <<I am a long time (30 year) breeder, residing in Canada, and show and breed across the border all the time.  I have many dogs that are Canadian born, owned, and resident - that also have AKC registration.  AKC even has a special registration application for foreign owned and resident dogs....  Canadian resident dogs can also sire an AKC registered litter - it happens all the time.....all they have to have is an AKC number, it doesn't matter if they live in Canada or not......

Darla - "It doesn't matter if they live in Canada or not but it does matter if the dog is eligible for registration on the above IMPORT application."

Laurie <<However, to sire an AKC litter, a dog must have an AKC number, so it could be that someone fraudulently obtained an AKC number on the Kuvasz in question.....    <<

Darla - "AKC registered a dog without a CKC certificate in the name of the alleged importers. In other words, the dog was illegally registered with AKC because there was NO CKC certificate in the name of the importers.

"AKC altered the Canadian breeder’s records. The breeders requested AKC correct their records. AKC refused."

Laurie <<If you read the AKC registration regulations, you'll see that AKC can indeed change the name of a dog born in Canada (or imported from anywhere else) for the purposes of AKC registration (although only if there is already an AKC dog with that name) - although this really has nothing to do with the case being discussed.....

Darla "AKC can not change the name of a dog born in Canada.  PERIOD.   The above application clearly states: "Dog must be registered with the same name under which it was registered in its country of birth".

Editor: Lofranco states the obvious in her letter to Mr. Sharp.  “AKC can not change the name of a dog born in Canada for any reason.”

Laurie  <<According to Lofranco, she requested a copy of the CKC export certificate. This article mentions a CKC export certificate several times, but in fact, there is no such thing!   Export certificates and export pedigrees are generally issued by various European registries, the Canadian Kennel issues nothing like that, or even anything remotely similar.  I export about half of my puppies to the US, so I am well familiar with the procedure and documentation required....

Darla "A CKC certificate showing the owner's address outside of Canada is an export certificate. Eg. Laurie Soutar, NY, USA would mean the dog was imported into the USA. A dog must be exported in order to be imported.

"
I hope this sets the records straight.

"AKC registered a dog without CKC papers in the name of the alleged importer. AKC records are in violation of the rules of the American Kennel Club and we have the documents to prove it!  Trevor was ineligible for registration on application WG195801.  AKC cancelled the illegal registration for this dog in November 2005."

 Darla also cites the following:

AKC rules, Chapter 1, Section 7

"No change in the name of a dog registered with The American Kennel Club will be allowed to be made except for a one-time change for a dog whelped in the United States which the breeder(s) has registered with The American Kennel Club.

“However, no change in the name will be recorded by The American Kennel Club after the dog has produced or sired an AKC registered litter or received an award at an AKC licensed or member event. Additionally, no change may be made to the dog's registered name unless the breeder (s) of record has consented in writing to the AKC approving the change.

“Any change in name must comply with all AKC requirements"

And she goes on to again explain:  "Lofranco TNT Trevor Nordland was registered in AKC but AKC was forced to cancel that registration (November 2005) because there was no CKC certificate for Trevor in the name of Karen and Henry Nichols, Wa, USA on file with the American Kennel Club.

"AKC then changed the dog imported by Karen and Henry Nichols to show it as the littermate, Lofranco's Tank-You Nordland in November 2005 and then sent the letter dated March 3, 2006."

Darla provides this additional Information: "The Canadian breeders requested a copy of AKC records for WG195801 in November 2005.  Those AKC records confirm Lofranco's Tank-You Nordland UN641655 was the dog imported into the USA by Karen and Henry Nichols NOT the littermate Lofranco TNT Trevor Nordland UN653359 owned by Darla Lofranco a resident of Canada.

AKC cancelled Trevor's illegal registration in November 2005 and then tried to cover up the cancellation with the letter dated March 3, 2006.  The letter dated March 3, 2006 regarding an alleged name change for the same dog is not only false but INVALID.

"Trevor and Tank are not the same dog and the ownership is not the same based on CKC certificates."

Because of hard copy routinely provided by AKC and held by others, this problem will not go away even though AKC has arrogantly informed Mrs. Lofranco the “case is closed.”

The complexities would be difficult for a court to sort through but it seems clear that AKC altered the stud book and subsequent generations of a breed with a small gene pool.  Deliberate corruption of information formerly held “sacred” by most serious breeders is a serious “crime” in the eyes of the fancy.  For people like Darla who invest so much to build, improve, and maintain a bloodline, it is nothing short of robbery.  The theft of stud book integrity has also stolen from the Group Winners and top producing Kuvasz on both sides of the border.

What about your breed?  Is there any pure breed left?  Why are we spending hundreds of thousands yearly in genetic testing dogs whose pedigrees may be meaningless?????
