The conservative, eloquent and never-censored Rush Limbaugh was roundly
censured for supporting the Humane Society (HSUS) on his radio talk
show.

– I like Rush, listen to him most
days and tried to call him when my daughter told me that angry dog owners and hissing cat lovers sent
him a ton of mail. The popular
personality doesn’t mince words but this is probably one time Rush
wishes he hadn’t parsed them so well.
Is Rush Limbaugh a paid HSUS spokesman or has the master of ideology
been taken in by the so-called animal advocates? Like him or not, Rush
is nobody’s fool and Rush fans are firmly convinced of his
principals. So I reckon that paid or not, Rush was as easily conned by HSUS rhetoric as are the majority of Americans for whom and to whom, he
speaks. That’s as disappointing as learning that scrambled pig brains
really come from pigs!
I used to hunt so it was interesting that the
U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance
sent a letter to Limbaugh urging him to cease support of the Humane
Society of the United States (HSUS) which it characterized as “America’s
number one opponent of sportsman traditions.”
According to them, a lot of leading Conservation Groups also sent
letters. The groups named include the Archery Trade Association,
Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation, Conservation Force, Ducks
Unlimited, Masters of Foxhounds Association of North America, the
National Shooting Sports Foundation, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation,
Texas Wildlife Association, Theodore Roosevelt Conservation Partnership,
and the Wildlife Management Institute.
Ducks Unlimited is a good example of voters who suddenly know about
HSUS. That’s a good thing because now their 630,000 members are really
ticked at HSUS. Thanks Rush!
Informed pet owners were furious with Rush but AKC has nothing to
say. Not surprising since AKC seems more aligned with HSUS than
with dog owners. That's okay though, the sportsmen drew a
bead on their target with; “Every year, billions of dollars are pumped
into conservation and local economies by American hunters, anglers, and
trappers through the purchases of their licenses, equipment and
clothing, and through their expenditures on hotels, travel, and
dining.”
My kid says pet owners spent $42 billion on their pets last year
and that there are more pets in American households than there are
children. She says there are more dog owners than the women who
achieved victory with MADD and other political crusades. The "dog
fancy" should hire those ladies and forget about AKC representing their
interests. It makes as much sense as Vets hiring war protesters to
represent us.
The sportsman’s letter pointed out a worrisome fact, the
impact Limbaugh’s HSUS endorsement will have on people who might
otherwise not be exposed to the warm fuzzy sounding agenda of the
“Humane Society.” One thing HSUS has proven itself to be is clever.
With that Pacelle guy at the helm, the HSUS is like a WWII destroyer,
depth charges and torpedoes loaded, and I can see it churning straight
at America’s values.
According to the Sportsman’s Alliance, “With America’s most prominent
conservative spokesman on board, they (HSUS) have the opportunity to
make in-roads in to a new cross section of our country” and that’s a
fact but you know what? They also said Rush’s support “furthers the
anti-hunting and anti-fishing agenda of HSUS, which will undermine the
great success of conservation and threatens the economies of small towns
and rural states across our nation.”
I had to think about that until I read where the US Sportsmen President
and CEO Bud Pidgeon spelled it out for Rush, saying "Most Americans
don't know that HSUS does not operate your local animal shelters." He
got that right. That’s what I keep telling my daughter.
Pidgeon went on to say "We believe that confusion leads many to
contribute to HSUS thinking that they are helping local dogs and
cats. Instead their money is used to push legislation banning hunting
rights and more.” I’m not so sure that people are all wrought up about
that. With Obama in office and the Lefties so much against
hurting the
poor little animals that used to feed a hungry nation before we could
import meat from other countries, well, I don’t know how many men today
support hunting.
One thing’s for sure, Rush doesn’t want to talk about it. He had a
Yorkshire Terrier that he talked about a few years back so it isn’t that
he doesn’t care about animals. No one can question his love for this
country and for political intrigue. So Rush Limbaugh should know
that the Humane Society Of The U.S.
"spent over $5.2 million
just on the 2008 election cycle - more than the
Teamsters Union, the American Bankers Association, or just about any
other company, union, or political action committee (PAC).” That’s
according to TheDogPlace and ConsumerFreedom, sites that always get
it right.
Five
million bucks in one year is a lot of political pay-offs! How much is
HSUS spending with Rush Limbaugh? We don’t know, maybe nothing. Could
be that Rush, like other uninformed Americans, believes the
Humane Society is about humane treatment for animals and that it
actually cares about animals.
If
he does, Mr. Limbaugh might as well quit broadcasting because dog people
aren’t listening. Like me, pet owners can clearly see the HSUS deal and
they don’t like it! |
