WHO IS THE AKC?

Are there people behind the Desks in Raleigh and NYC, or is the AKC what they are registered as, a non profit organization.. a CLUB OF CLUBS, who work for US???

Vickie Haywood  TheDogPress December 2005 - Just for giggles: I went to the AKC site and did some research on 2004 AKC figures:

633,863 Agility Entries x $2.50 rec. fee= $1,584,658

1,729,729 All Breed + $1.50 Ser. Fee + 50˘ rec. fee= $3,459,458

158,651 Spec. Entries +$1.50 Ser. fee +50˘ rec. fee= $317,302

137,281 Obedience Entries+$1.50 Ser. fee + 50˘ rec. fee=  $274,562

For a GRAND TOTAL of: $5,635,980 (That's; Five Million, Six hundred Thirty-five thousand, Nine hundred Eighty dollars!!)

And the price went up! Now we have a $1.50 AKC service fee and a 50˘ recording fee...so add to that for next year $2,832,571.5 additional (the $1.50 service fee)

I think that gives US, the showing public, (in just 2 events)  5 million dollars worth of say-so in how AKC is treating us with regards to the PAWS bill.....This doesn't even cover obedience and field sports and tracking.

Are they nuts or what???? Has any one looked at what will happen to AKC if we did a mass exodus????  Boy I can just bet that UKC would fall all over themselves if AKC club members  started contacting them for permission to become show giving  UKC clubs.... They actually have everything that AKC has and more. And they have sensible leadership. Why did Wayne Cavanaugh leave AKC anyway?  Maybe this is not my best choice, however, I can fight fire with fire....  Do you think there is enough impetus out there, with all the rage over this bill, that we could make AKC see the light???

I BELIEVE, I REALLY WANT TO BELIEVE, that there is.

Exactly what are they doing with the MONEY???????? They are a CLUB OF CLUBS.  WE are the CLUBS.  WE are the backbone of the Club of Clubs (if you are not a member, join so you too can be a part of it all)....  WE have to reach AKC’s set goals each year in order to be ALLOWED to put on a show, or an obedience trial, or any other event.  We clubs have to pay them to allow us to put on an event. We have to bow to our MOTHER club (and we have to pay them to be a member) if we are a specialty club. If we want a VOICE at AKC, we have to elect a delegate, (in the case of specialty clubs only the mother club is allowed a delegate) and then we have to get their credentials and get them accepted in order to have that voice.  Then we club members usually have to pay the expenses of the delegate to attend.  But NOT all AKC clubs have delegates!!!!!  What a farce! 

And in PAWS, the Delegates had no say whatsoever!  NONE.  Do we (clubs) have the power of VETO????   NO!

Can the AKC continue IF the CLUBS suddenly stopped putting on shows?  What would the economic fallout be if the Tarheel Cluster ceased to be??? Or the Louisville Cluster, or the Houston Cluster?

Can the AKC continue to spend non-profit  money on their various (high) salaries and projects without the 5 million dollars they get each year from those of us who SUPPORT AKC with our entry money????  Can they afford to loose that much money???

What else can they do to us??? They have already sold us down the river with the Hunte Corp.... what is next?  Baby Huntes springing up everywhere!!  Go to the Hunte Corp website and see for yourself what Hunte Corp will offer you!!! 

Baby Huntes have the backing to build fine facilities to raise puppies, that NO ONE cares about having PRA/PRCD, von Willebrand’s disease, epilepsy, juvenile renal failure, S A, Hip Dysphasia, elbow disease, slipping stifles, and a lot of other diseases that we SHOW BREEDERS test for?  We are in fact the KEEPERS OF OUR BREEDS, we test where we can and research where we can't test, we get answers because we care.  And pedigrees.... Can we be sure those dogs in the pedigrees are for REAL?

Regulating show breeders? Ok, we see that one coming.... How can all the Best be so wrong about where this is going? If there is not a grass roots effort, who will stop it?  If that is AKC 's target goal, what will they then do?  Just register the puppy mill pups or get into selling for a profit themselves over the internet??? Is that next?  They have already tackled the entry taking, and classified adds on the internet, and they have our recording/service fees, so is the actual selling of puppies like Sears and Roebuck used to do the next step?  Just Call AKC, give them your order and they will ship it out?  THAT my friends, is a very scary but VERY possible thought. 

Since the AKC is in bed with HSUS and HSUS is aligned with PETA and their ultimate goal is ZERO pet population (see article/info on public enemy #1 and #2 ) I ask you, Where exactly is AKC going????

I personally started a petition and wish for 50,000 names on it to make the powers that be stand up and TAKE NOTICE: That means Sen. Santorum, Everybody at AKC, even President Bush - who owns a Scotty from one of US hobby breeders.

Every Wednesday morning, before you make that show entry, THINK ABOUT WHERE YOUR ENTRY MONEY IS GOING TO GO:

* to the superintendent (they work hard for us clubs)

* to the Show giving Club (who are charged by AKC to educate the general public)

* to AKC, who may or may not have OUR best interest at heart.

* to the judges (through what profit the club may derive) who charge at least their expenses, and many who charge by the day or dog, who may or may not have the best interest of pure bred dogs in their heart...

Right now, I feel like every time I enter, I am putting money in the hands of the Animal Rights groups...and their ultimate goal is to have ZERO PET population!

I cannot imagine my life without a poodle in it. I could not take another breath if the AR Nazis won and took away my ability to breed and raise my own fur kids, and to do it my way. I can reach out right now this minute and TOUCH generations of the very poodles I started with 40 years ago. I pray to what ever GOD (DOG) there is, that 20 years from now I can still say the same thing.
