Particularly
egregious and contrary to the best interests of the sport,
Paul's use of AKC credentials to support his testimony has the
fancy calling for his suspension.
We all know people who care less about doing for dogs
than what dogs can do for them. This editor hopes that Mr. Paul
isn’t one of them. For background commentary, the bigger
picture, and the entire bill, use the provided links below.
"And now for the lighter side of the news. OOOH, that's
stirring stuff! I'm here and my name's Ted Paul. I'm a
resident of South Salem. I've been a small business owner here
in the state of Oregon for the past twenty-eight years.

... it would be no loss to the show
world to remove any AKC Judge who supports the H$U$ philosophy
of "out in one generation".
By his and his wife's very public support of H$US, his
statements about H$U$ driven Legislation, all these are actions
prejudicial to the sport of pure bred dogs.

“I'm a Past-President of the Collie Clue of America. At the time
I was President, it was the largest single Breed Club in the
world. I also served on the Board of Directors of The American
Owners Association, ADOA. I'm a Past-President of the Purebred
Dog Breeders and Fanciers Association. I have served as a
District Director for the Collie Club of America, Vice President
and Committees too numerous to mention.
“I have been a Licensed AKC Judge for the past
thirty-three years. I have judged dogs from coast to coast in
this country and also in South America and Canada. I have
judged the Collie Club of America National Specialty
three times, including it's prestigious 100th Anniversary Show.
“I have raised and shown many Champions, including one of the
top-winning Collies in the country, who had, to his credit, an
Owner-handled Breed win at Westminster Kennel Club, along with
numerous Best In Shows.
“I have been the featured Speaker at Symposiums and Banquets
well over seventy-five times. I have authored a book called
"The Christmas Collie" which has sold over a hundred thousand
copies.
“As such, Ladies and Gentlemen of the Committee, I feel
qualified to discuss the Bill at hand from the perspective of a
Hobby Breeder. It is in this role, as a responsible Hobby
Breeder, that I come before you today, to urge you, our State
Legislators, to push forward, and pass House Bill 2470; to crack
down on Oregon puppy mills, these unscrupulous individuals who
give ALL breeders, as well as the sport of dogs, a bad name.
“It should be the desire of ALL breeders in this state (and in
this room) to strongly support House Bill 2470, as it directly
addresses the cruel and inhumane treatment of Mans' Best
Friend, at their most vulnerable stage of Life, at birth, as
you've just heard. And we, as breeders, who hold the welfare of
dogs as a priority above ALL others, need and should step
forward today and be counted.
“Please, pass House Bill 2470.
“I thank you and if you have any questions of me or the
Committee, I'm sure we would be happy to answer."
- Ted Paul's testimony, if he answered questions for the
Committee, he has so far not made the questions or his answers
public.
And from a long-time subscriber, who expressed the feelings of
almost everyone who wrote or called
"I want to see AKC do what is in the best interest of our Sport;
remove this man's Judging license and perhaps his ability to
register dogs. In my opinion, it would be no loss to the show
world to remove any AKC Judge who supports the H$U$ philosophy
of 'out in one generation'.
"By his and his wife's very public support of H$US, his
statements about H$U$ driven Legislation, all these are actions
prejudicial to the sport of pure bred dogs. His testimony in
favour of H$U$ driven legislation puts every one of us at risk
for loosing our animals or at the very least, their reproductive
capability." D-M Hedgcock
