In randomly selecting a few of the hundreds of responses, we
were amazed at how many used the word TRAITOR. Your message was
clear. Also, a lot of you picked up on AKC’s apparent position
or relationship with HSUS. Collie people are not happy with
their BOD. Ted Paul certainly caused a stir in more ways than we
suspected.
Your votes will continue to be counted until the next HEADlines
edition, after which time, we will file a report with the new
Judging Department Director and ask for AKC's official position
on this matter. Thank you for your participation.

I do not know Ted Paul personally however I do know that his
comments, made with the credentials he is touting, have
played against the dog fancy in general. Please do us all a
favor and suspend him (for life) and save the fancy from
idiots like this. Thank you,
Pam Johnston

Ted Paul, as you know, owns Beautiful America Publishing Company.
He doesn't have a website listed for him personally, but I'm
sure that the company mail box could get flooded w/email!!
Here it is:
bapco@beautifulamericapub.com
“a reader” Editor's Note:
We have asked for his side of the story.
-
I was in touch with AKC as soon as this came out, and the answer was
that Mr. Paul didn't represent AKC, and is entitled to his
own opinion, and they would not do a thing to him. Did we
really think we would get a different answer?
Suzanne Madieros
-
He used his AKC credentials to further his personal agenda with HSUS
before the house committee hearing on 2470. HSUS and AKC
have conflicting views on purebred dogs, if he agrees with
HSUS and is unwilling to release from his AKC affiliation
voluntarily, then he should be suspended. He can not speak
out of both sides of his mouth when it come to purebred
dogs. You can not be in favor of breeding to better purebred
dogs and HSUS at the same time.
Sandy Ray
-
We breeders, handlers, and dog OWNERS have enough to deal with
fighting BSL and dog law every single day, without one of
'our own' fighting against us. There should be NO TOLERANCE
for this behavior. He gets paid to judge the very people he
is speaking against. I wish the AKC would stand up for what
little rights we are fighting so hard to keep.
Cindy Martishius
-
Please suspend this judge. His actions are unconscionable. R L
Pless
-
He should
be suspended from ALL AKC privileges - and I would encourage
all other registries to do the same! I have spent the last 2
years of my life actively fighting such people. I have told
my out-of-state relatives that IF something strange happens
to me, look into the connection. I have been called names,
squashed in the Sacramento hallways, while defending my
dogs' right to exist in many venues. I was distressed when
it appeared we were going to lose the AB 1634 fight -
because AKC appeared to be sanctioning it!!
Sorry - I
judge Field Trials and Earthdog tests, have trained juniors
and adults in conformation, and am a certified CGC tester.
I'd say my life pretty much revolves around my RARE-breed
AKC dogs - - and I am not about to go down without a
fight!!! In years
past, “drawn and quartered” was standard for such
treachery!!! Carol Hamilton
-
I totally
agree with suspending Ted Paul's judging license. I was
appalled at his statements condoning the work of PETA and
HSUS. This person should no longer have anything to do with
dogs. Caroline Jones
-
I am a long time breeder, exhibitor and fancier of collies, and I am
appalled at both Ted Paul's self serving arrogance and the
attempts by the CCA hierarchy to put a lid on this. With the
CCA National Specialty right around the corner, there is
talk of circulating petitions to have Mr. Paul brought up on
charges, although the CCA President disbanded the ethics
committee, so I don't know how that would work.
Marguerite
-
Mr. Ted Paul and his wife are good people. We cannot understand why
they feel the way they do.
Carol E Chapman
-
Allowing this judge to maintain his AKC credentials gives the
illusion to the general public that the AKC supports HSUS
and its animal rights agenda. If the AKC wishes to retain
(or perhaps, earn) the respect of breeders of any animal or
the public that is slowly becoming aware of the actual
agenda of HSUS, it must disassociate itself from this judge
immediately and publicly.
Jo Stegall
-
As a judge, I resent one of "our own" being allowed to retain that
mantle if they are supporting HSUS and all its negative
connotations. He cannot have his feet in both worlds! If he
apologizes, it needs to be in as large a public forum as his
supportive statements. Ellen Worthington, Aynsworth Shelties
-
This is without question conduct harmful to the sport of purebred
dogs. Bonnie Chandler
-
Collie breeders all over the country are horrified by the stand
this man has taken -- while he pretends to be representing
us. Somewhere he lost site of what pet lovers know -- these
dogs (and cats) are beloved possessions. Older dogs, pets,
show dogs, puppies, rescues, ALL deserve better treatment
than he would allow them to have. And he does that in the
name of animal RIGHTS? What rights does he want them to
have? They would be unable to reproduce; he doesn't want
them to live with humans even if they are happy there; is he
going to give them a vote? The only right Ted Paul would
give them is the right to be extinct.
Charlotte Holzman
-
The standard AKC statement says it all. His past association
with HSUS & The Fund for Animals shows where his allegiance
is. “… AKC suspension on grounds of "conduct detrimental to
the sport." He must have known that he was speaking against
carefully bred, greatly cherished hunting, sporting,
performance, and show dogs.
Gail Brown
-
I find his actions abhorrent and inexcusable. If the AKC does not
suspend him, give me his show schedule, and I will
personally post it and make sure to avoid the shows where he
has been hired and let them know why I will not be showing
there. Sara Peterka, D & D Ventures, Inc.
-
He should be suspended... it certainly doesn't help the AKC or
exhibitors and breeders.
Jeanne M.
-
Suspend, absolutely. As I stated in the letter I wrote to you when
this incident came to light, he has used his position and by
doings so, insinuated that he represented AKC. He has not
acted in the best interest of the sport or for that matter
AKC, the rest of us who want to continue to show and breed
our dogs or cats.
He has every right to affiliate himself with H$U$, this is a free
country even though he does not seem to want that for the
rest of us. He can leave all his money to H$U$ or PETA or
who ever he wants to, it is a free country.
He can not in my opinion be an H$U$ supporter and act in the best
interest of the sport of pure bred dogs. They are two
diametrically opposed positions. Not only should his Judging
credentials be withdrawn but he should be suspended from all
AKC privileges for "actions detrimental to the sport of purebred dogs". D-M Hedgcock, Great Dane owner
-
This man needs to never judge at a show ever again. He has played
into the radical agenda of HSUS who have used him and he is
too stupid to even know it!
David & Cindy VanLandegen
-
My Husband and I are totally disgusted with Ted & Beverly Paul and the
damage that they have done to the sport of dogs. Mr. Paul
should have his judging credentials revoked at the least and
be suspended for life and drummed out of the AKC AND the
Collie Club of America at the most. For a dog fancier, AKC
judge and a Collie fancier to give ammunition to the ARA,
H$U$ and PeTA (AKA—THE ENEMY) is UNTHINKABLE! GET RID OF
HIM! Thank you, Dot Newkirk, Cambric Collies
-
As an Oregon resident, I would say that yes, AKC should suspend
this judge immediately. Robert Perry, Professional Handler
-
I have shown under Paul many years ago and he is arrogant and a
“showman” – this is greatly disappointing that one our “own”
would stab a knife so deep in the back of his own breed and
many others. Linda Ward, Tanya Ward - Show & Performance
Collies

I am in favor of suspending Ted Paul's license to judge. I feel that
his support of HSUS is detrimental to the sport of pure bred
dogs. Jill Dybus-Thomas
-
I support the suspension of judge Ted Paul. His alignment and support
of the HSUS is an affront to the AKC, the sport of purebred
dogs, and to the dedicated AKC breeders. Maureen Pogorzelski, Lyricc Cavaliers
-
Not just suspend, permanently BAN from judging!
Hilda Moore
-
I believe that if this is truly the way this judge feels he should not
be judging for AKC or anyone else - He is not helping the
AKC in there endeavors nor is he helping the individual
breeds nor the individual breeders - He should be ashamed to
even associate himself with these organizations and people.
Bill Davis, Three Bears Chow Chows
-
Definitely suspend. We do not need the wolf in sheep's clothing in our
ranks. Linda Scanlon
-
I feel that by being a spokes person for the HSUS Mr. Paul has gone
against everything that the American Kennel Club stands for.
He has gone against every caring breeder, everyone who has
and loves their pets, and those of us who enjoy showing our
dogs. Please add my vote to, I'm sure, the list of people
who have voted to remove him as an AKC judge.
Thank you for keeping me informed with the information I receive from
TheDogPress. O & R Hausken
-
He has no business speaking for the dog fancy! I am outraged! Marcia
Tucker, Sunsprite, breeder for over 30 years of Rottweilers and Miniature Pinschers
-
This man can not be a true purebred dog lover and take the side of
HSUS. Send him home with his friends...the HSUS, and tear up
is license. Jay Campion
-
This is an intolerable act and certainly prejudicial to the best
interests of the sport.
James F. Brennan
-
This man is
a traitor to the very essence of dog breeding. He cares not
that those in the future and present could lose this right
to the pursuit of happiness. He is A TRAITOR TO THE FANCY AS
WELL AS TO AMERICA.
Diane Amble
-
This man is a traitor to our beloved dogs. His association with these
organizations are sufficient to suspend him, without looking
back. Barbara Green
-
An AKC judge that would do this
should not be allowed to earn money nor attend a dog show,
this is a conflict of interest... I would not -- support
this judge’s entry or a club that would hire him.
Jennifer
Reed and Christian Smith
-
We're being assaulted from
without - now from within. Is this why I pay lots of money
to AKC in registration and show fees? Beth Toraason, Toucha
Shar-Pei
-
I vote to suspend not just
judging privileges, but all AKC privileges. Ted Paul is a
perfect example of narrow-minded stupidity and selfishness.
Margot Woods
-
I find it appalling that Ted Paul
identifies himself as an AKC judge all the while being an
advocate of the Animal Activist Cult. He should be removed
immediately and it should be on the cover of the GAZETTE.
Jolene Davis
-
How could any Judge support such
as that; Yes, he should be suspended - For Life.
Frank

-
Actually heard this man speak at
the legislative meeting, and thought at the time that he was
sincere, but ignorant. The fact that he is a long-time
supporter of HSUS & other groups/ideas of this genre makes
him despicable instead. He should definitely have his
license yanked! And – since he is licensed to judge pems &
cardis – I am going to make super-sure I don’t ever enter
under him! I. Peckham
-
At the rate we are losing our
rights to own, show and breed dogs, the AKC definitely does
not need to accredit a judge nwho supports animal rights'
activists. Mary L. Stumpff
-
Suspend Mr. Paul's judging
privileges. His comments are totally derogatory to our sport
of dogs. Helene Benson, Kandiland Chihuahuas
-
I vote YES - he is not in the
best interest of AKC show dogs. His actions are detrimental
to the sport. Pat Robinson, ROBINHAUS German Shepherds
-
As we are fighting the BAD dog
laws here in Illinois, I for one would like the AKC to
suspend Ted Paul~! They have done it for lesser offenses.
Mildred Bartlett
-
Although AKC has fallen in bed
with the HVB themselves trying to increase their
registration numbers, (he) should be suspended for the
damage he has done to respectable breeders. Mr. Paul owes
all dog breeders an apology.
R. Allegrini
-
Judges are not supposed to judge
at "other registry" shows-what would be said for this judge
not to be suspended for backing PETA/HSUS.
Grovetonlabs
-
I find it incomprehensible that
anyone who supports the HSUS would even have the desire to
judge dogs, unless that person is totally clueless regarding
the true agenda of that organization. Somehow, I find that
impossible to believe, though.
Gail Karamalegos
-
I vote for suspension. I have
been a breeder/exhibitor for 45 years, having started in the
era of the big kennels. We maintained our own gene pool. You
only have to look at my breed today, labrador retrievers, to
see the problems we created when the large kennels went by
the wayside. Jean Nelson
-
Absolutely suspend. And I am a
collie person of nearly 40 years as a breeder/exhibitor. I
am ashamed and appalled at this entire situation - as well
as very saddened . I think the Paul's are being taken for
fools by HSUS and I am concerned about how many others may
have already done the same thing. Vickie VonSeggern,
Thorndale Collies
