DOG SHOW JUDGE ARRESTED FOR EMBEZZLEMENT

Roth worked in the University of NC Wilmington pharmacy and was charged June 9, 2010 with embezzling $4,009 worth of drugs “and other products” from the student health pharmacy.

The Dog Press Staff © TheDogPress 06|23|10 - The other products Ann Roth allegedly stole include a bone loss medication, two blood pressure medicines, a pulmonary drug, grape seed extract, and personal care items. Whether these products were for personal use or for resale is unknown at this time.

StarNews reports that the UNCW police department began investigating after receiving a tip April 23. Chief David Donaldson said officers went back through 10 years of records while investigating. Roth was taken to New Hanover County jail and later released with an unsecured bond. We called Ms. Roth for comment and while she was happy to talk to the editor, under the advice of her attorneys she is not “free to discuss the case because it is ongoing.” She does “believe it will all be resolved” although no court date has been set. Roth was emphatic in stating “I am not admitting guilt, I am just not able to discuss it.”

Ann Roth’s personal breed is Beagles since 1979. She began judging in 2004 and is currently AKC approved for several Hound breeds and also Smooth Fox Terriers. Asked if she is judging the Beagle National Specialty she confirmed, “Yes, I will be judging the regular classes at the National.”

Ann Roth still exhibits but she said “Sparingly. I have some co-owned dogs but I don’t feel comfortable competing with someone this week and then judging their dogs next week.”
