Pat and Judy Doniere were Toledobes kennels
and among the most popular of all husband-wife judging teams. Pat Doniere was a power in the Senior Conformation Judges Association
and not one to back peddle on confrontational matters. Judy
lost Pat in 2003 but she carried on valiantly as the
judging community emotionally supported her. Judy didn't make
the Senior Conformation Judges Educational Judging Institute in Las
Vegas last August and everyone there was concerned but she was soon
judging again and seemed to be doing fine.
Last month we published her daughter's plea for
people to send cards to cheer Judy up as she battled ovarian cancer.
Tami Byroads said her mother, an AKC judge and "longtime Dobie
breeder/show person" would be heartened by the cards. Tami
said:

“... Please send her a get well card...
the funnier the better. Send big ones, small ones, musical
ones, any kind you can but make it fun. She has enough
seriousness in her life right now. If you want to give her
prayers please do that in your house of worship but now we
need her to laugh. I want her to see how many care.
“I promise it will be hand delivered to her with Love. My
fear is because she has moved to different rooms if you send
it to the hospital it won’t get to her. I want her to smile,
I want her to know how many lives she has touched so please
help.
“I know these are tough financial times so if you can't buy
one make it and send it. It will mean the world to her. I
hope you all respond, who knows what that much Love can do.
Then, unexpectedly, as September
2009 drew to a close, Tami sent this:
"... It is with a
heavy heart that I must announce that Judy Doniere passed away.
She valiantly fought her battle with cancer and she was the toughest
woman I have ever seen face this.
"I will miss her immensely. I want to
thank everyone who has kept her in their prayers and have sent
cards of laughter and encouragement.
"She received so many cards that the
hospice nurses asked if she were a celebrity!
"Our family will plan a "Celebration of
Life Memorial Service" on October 27th on her birthday at St Peter
of the Apostle, Roman Catholic Church in Henderson, NV with a
reception to follow at the home of Steve & Holly Schorr.
"She would want to be sure that it was
well after the Doberman Pinscher National Specialty. She so
badly wanted to attend that coming up in October, but God needed her
sooner.
"She was a great lady and a loving
mother."
Tami Byroads
The family asks that any contributions
be made to Creekside Hospice, American Cancer Society, DPCA Rescue,
or Take the Lead.
