Dorothy
Nickles died peacefully in her sleep at 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 16,
2009 in Ft. Worth, Texas. She was taken to Hospice with double
pneumonia (both lungs), which is a poor prognosis for someone
half her age. Miss Dorothy was 99 years young.
Earlier on Tuesday Joe McGinnis (ShowSight) who loves her like a
mother, said "she is resting comfortably" but asked that we pray
that “she will return to health because we cannot fathom life
without her.” Amen. Dog shows will be different.

Miss Dorothy was an icon in the dog world. Always impeccably turned
out, radiant with vim and vigor, she could have been a heroine in a
great movie of the civilized west or a star in “Dallas.” Like the TV
series, she had a long run and devoted fans. Dorothy Nickles was a
lady of class but not one with whom you would want to exchange
words.
She judged all over the world and was treated like royalty or a
sister-come-home, depending on the country. She is shown here in a
show photo from the 1960s. The handler is Fred Lanting who later
became an AKC and international judge. Fred and Dorothy last judged
together in Cali, Columbia, SA. Fred says “She was one of the better
judges, and a very nice woman to know outside the ring.” |
