"Who ARE We??" Quite Simply, Dog People Serving Dog People TDP Science and Advisory Board over 500 years of Veterinary, Puppy mills and commercial or “high volume” breeders are getting better and better at what they do. Conversely, AKC says there is such a demand for purebred puppies that we are importing “huge numbers” of purebreds from western Europe, Russia, and China!! (AKC Officers, Jim Holt, Dog News quotes, etc.) Whether true or not, it is said to be as a result of booming internet sales, and that part is true. Puppy mills make excellent use of the internet. Today everyone has a website and everyone is an expert. You will never learn who the nameless entities are behind some of the supposedly expert information sites, including a few sites you know very well. Some of them actually took innovative concepts published on TheDogPlace, changed a few words or tags and then hastened to take credit for TDP’s copyrighted material and new features. The point is, if we are to fight commercialism in our sport, thereby protecting the dogs and the public from “bad” breeders (sometimes puppy mills, but just as often they are people you see at the shows who have too many carelessly bred litters) we must protect the public from imposters while at the same time, overcoming the ingrained belief “if it is printed, it must be so.” More and more showing breeders who occasionally win with a fluke or something they bought, present themselves (online) as experts and “responsible breeders” – a term by the way, that originated on TheDogPlace in 1999 and was promptly adopted by Moss Bow Foley for their new Infodog. Imitation being flattery and all that….. When you look through the JudgesPlace, Profiles, Writers and Contributors, and especially, the Science and Advisory Board, there can be no question of Who We Are. That is the platform upon which TheDogPlace stands, and it remains safely “ours.” No one cares to copy that format. We just thought YOU would like to know. "Our Mission" TheDogPlace opposes any entity which could adversely affect the inexplicable bond demonstrated by a simple fact of nature; the dog is the only creature which forsakes the wild to join with and protect mankind. The uniqueness of that relationship must therefore be recognized as a gift from the Creator. The Mission is to educate, inform, and preserve our God-given right to share life with the canine. |
