Shirley Lawler passed away at her home on November 18, 2017. We were shocked because she was evidently emailing this editor even as she was failing.
Her obituary states that she was "heavily involved with animal legislation becoming a well-respected voice of animal welfare nationwide. Shirley was also an active member of Tomball American Legion Auxiliary Unit 127. Shirley led by example by maintaining an active role in veteran’s affairs; working to preserve veterans’ rights while advocating for better benefits and pay as well as volunteering and serving the veterans and their families in her community.
"She is survived by her loving husband of 23 years, George Snell; her daughters, Lori Elmore and Sherry Lawler and three stepchildren."
Such a little bit for someone with such a huge impact on both the dog and cat fancy. Not many people actually become "a legend in their own time" but Shirley was just that. A gifted writer and tireless advocate for animal welfare and breeder education, she will be forever in our hearts.
