California Dog Owners In Crisis. was rough. A lot of great dog (and cat) people and registries came together and defeated AB 1634 but it sure didn't help that AKC Withdrew Opposition to one of the worst bills against all pet owners!!! AB 1634 was a "model" bill for other states and passage would have insured death and dumping for thousands of dogs just in California alone. Next week we'll bring you all the details and facts, plus a lot of speculation on how a legislative disaster came back to life and whether is will stay dead this time... We truly hate to be the bearer of so much bad news. Our staff would prefer to only present uplifting and helpful health items. We will do that in the next edition. In the meantime, readers have asked "why" we report things that disturb dog people? Others fear we will be silenced and wonder why we take risks to bring you news. AKC Rule Change Allows Owners to Rename Their Dogs A March 2008 press release further complicates pedigree research for responsible breeders and it forces breeders to register each puppy in order to name it, thus mitigating the savings and any agreement between breeder and buyer. But it insures more income for AKC and that seems to be reason enough for just about all changes going on today. This preceded the April decision of the AKC Board to allow registration of non-registered dogs with unbroken lineage to be AKC registered. Read the AKC Rule Change release here.
