The Glitz and Glamour Of Dog Shows
2021-2022 Westminster Precedence
Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show WILL NOT been held in February OR New York City, as it has been for over 100 years! You could always time the shows with plans for Valentine’s Day!
January 24, 2022
Westminster Kennel Club dog show has been held in New York City at the Madison Square Garden forever, that is until COVID hit! 2020 was the last time the show was held normally and had actually increased to a three day event.
In 2021 the 145th dog show was postponed from the traditional February dates and Madison Square Garden venue because of COVID-19. Last year, the Delta Variant also caused Westminster dog show to be moved to the month of June and held outdoors at Lyndhurst, a riverside estate in Tarrytown, N.Y., outside the city. The show was not open to the public and no other outside spectators or vendors were allowed.
For a second year, the 146th Westminster Dog Show is being postponed due to fears of omicron variant of COVID. The Westminster Dog Show was planned for late January, not the normal February dates until the cancellation announced December 2021.
The Westminster Kennel Club has not announced the new dates but say they plan to hold the show sometime in 2022. Westminster Kennel Club president Chat Reynders, stated “We will keep you advised of our plans for the 2022 show as they evolve and appreciate your continued interest and support.”
Here's what was planned for 2022... Showing over 200 breeds and 3,000 varieties of dogs it was going to be held Jan 24-26, 2022. The show was returning to Madison Square Garden for evening competitions, televised on Fox Sports, after the 2021 show had to be held outside New York City and "outside" for the first time in history.
The group counts were: Sporting (429) - Hound (366) - Working (387) - Terrier (317) - Toy (372) - Non-Sporting (268) - Herding (324). The American Kennel Club added 2 dog breeds, the Hungarian mudi (pronounced "moody") and the Russian toy which means they're eligible to compete for best in show at WKC. The judging panel was not complete so we don't know who was going to judge the groups or Best In Show.
With travel restrictions, cancellations and new variants, will ANYTHING ever be the same? We are thinking, probably not! But we will keep you posted. TheDogPress.com EST 2002 © Jan 2022 https://www.thedogpress.com/DogShows/Westminster/2021-2022-Precedence-st22FF012.asp SSI
