Deadly Salmonella, ARDS and Zitka WarningsAugust 2018
Outbreak of multi-drug-resistant Salmonella infections linked to raw turkey products, plus ARDS and Zitka warnings.
CDC reports double-trouble, a "multistate outbreak of multidrug-resistant Salmonella which the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (USDA-FSIS) is monitoring."
This form of salmonella is resistant to most drugs. OK, USDA doesn't want to create a panic but...whereas most parents will quickly notice symptoms in their child, not every dog owner will be as observant. If your dog is mostly an outside pet, the risk is even higher. This salmonella infection has been traced to live turkey flocks and is also present in products containing turkey meat. Note: Salmonella has also been found in pet Guinea pigs so if your children have recently acquired one, call your veterinarian! Here is instant information on ii Salmonella Symptoms. Summer Sense: If you've been rattled by news about "a potentially deadly canine influenza outbreak" chill out. Every summer we are deliberately bombarded by "outbreak" warnings of everything from ARDS (Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome) to Zitka. The most predictable warning will of course be a "rabies outbreak" but "canine flu" or a new "contagious skin disease" are tied for second.
Read that with a smile but if your dog hasn't seen the vet this year, do your yearly vet-visit now. If you take your dog along on your summer vacation, take his vaccination records with you "just in case."
