POLICE SHOT PROTECTING DOGS
Washington DC has one of the highest stray dog, animal cruelty AND crime rates in the United States as reflected in this current news story.
April 3, 2024
International All-Breed judge Fred Lanting sent this to NetPlaces Network offices as a current example of what police officers face every day. It also reminds us that not all dog owners are “good guys.”
46-year-old Stephen Claude Rattigan, who goes by the name of Julius James, lived in Southeast, DC (District Of Columbia) with more than 30 dogs. www.TheDogPress.com is told that the suspect was well known to D.C. police and when four of their officers went to his residence to make an animal cruelty arrest, he opened fire on them.
Police Chief Pamela Smith said the shooter continued sporadically firing shots for several hours! Officers finally gave up trying to talk to him and bravely went in to stop the shooting. Even wearing bulletproof vests 2 officers suffered gunshot wounds to their legs.
In addition to cruelty to animals, Julius James is charged with assault with intent to kill.
We run this story for two reasons. In this day of denigrating police, think about what these officers did. They could have let 30 dogs continue to suffer and potentially die. They knew the guy was “armed and dangerous” but they took the risk to save the dogs.
When you see your “neighborhood cop” thank him or her for risking their lives to protect you and your best friends. TheDogPress.com EST 2002 © Mar 2024 https://www.thedogpress.com/NewsNips/police-shot-protecting-dogs-st24FF041.asp SSI
