There is nothing better than raw honey for soothing a sore throat and cough, including kennel cough, plus it fights bacteria AND viruses like COVID-19…

Healing with raw, unfiltered honey has been documented since humans could first record information in cave drawings. In fact, bees and honey are depicted in Stone Age paintings 8000 years ago!
Just as your dog will seek out and eat the right grass for a particular problem, ancient Egyptians, Assyrians, Chinese, Greeks and Romans loved the taste of honey and quickly recognized its value for healing flesh as effectively as letting a dog lick a wound…
You know how it goes… ‘one thing led to another’ and ancient humans learned that raw honey also healed the gut. We can safely assume that somewhere along the way (when humans learned to make fire) someone got burned and discovered honey is unsurpassed for healing burns!
But did you ever think about honey as “cough medicine” for you or your dog?!!? Pure, non-processed honey works, dogs love the taste and it will soothe and heal any sore throat!
Honey also makes apple cider vinegar for cystitis taste better… for pets and people!
Dosage: Toy breeds or any dog under 10 pounds can have 1/4 teaspoon raw honey twice daily for two or three days. He will beg for more but if the urinary problem, coughing, or tummy upset hasn’t improved by the second day, he needs to go to the dog doctor.
Larger dogs, up to about 60 pounds can be given a full teaspoon twice a day. Dogs over 60 pounds (too big to pick up) can have a tablespoon of honey twice daily for up to 3 days. If the problem hasn’t resolved by the third day, take him to the veterinarian.
To insure getting the medically documented wound healing and health benefits, be sure to choose raw, unfiltered honey for yourself and your pets.
Honey for animals? Yes. In fact, badgers, opossums, racoons, skunks and animals other than bears seek out beehives for the nutritional and health benefits of honey, and of course the taste!
“Medicine Men” around the world, who learned from nature instead of TV commercials, observed that bee gifts sealed and healed wounds. They also noted that honey soothed a sore throat. {Ref #1} (see reference below) Truth-In-Vitamins: Natural vs Man-made.
Honey has also been used for wound healing since before recorded times. Real, unadulterated honey is unsurpassed for burn treatment. As an aside, so is Clorox bleach (liquid oxygen) but honey is a more soothing, longer-lasting, natural anti-bacterial.
Here’s why. Depending on the primary source of pollen and nectar collected by the bees, honey produces a form of hydrogen peroxide that kills infective microbes.
If stored properly, honey can essentially stay good for decades, sometimes even longer. Primarily made up of sugars, (honey) is known as one of the most natural stable foods out there. ~ PublicGoods.com
In fact, in archaeologists found 3,000-year-old honey while excavating tombs in Egypt, and it was perfectly edible. Microbes cannot grow or reproduce in natural honey.
Raw Honey Burn TreatmentAfter allowing either oxygen bleach (hydrogen peroxide, sodium and/or sodium carbonate) or straight Hydrogen Peroxide (H₂O₂ = 2 oxygen atoms and 2 hydrogen atoms) to neutralize and flush germs away, a dressing of raw honey will soothe and heal due to its proven antioxidants and enzymes.
Note; the documented health benefits of raw honey refers only to that which is taken from the hive, not the commercially available “honey” on the grocer’s shelf. Source and hive management is questionable and commercial honey often contains liquid thinners (sugar water or flavored syrup).
Take it from a bee-keepers daughter, commercially processed honey has diminished health effects as opposed to ‘fresh from the hive’ local honey which by the way, helps protect against local plant allergies…
