TheDogPress.com had both critical and appreciative responses on coverage of Muslims serving in the U.S. Congress so we’ve added some immigration facts.

One of our judge-subscribers suggested that humans, just like dogs, have known breed characteristics and pointed out “It would be wrong to avoid acknowledging the human species exhibits genetic traits common to that ethnicity (breed).” He analogized the “fighting Irish” and “gregarious Italians” which we though was interesting.

Three readers assailed TheDogPress for “…your attack on the Muslims in Congress” and “obvious racial bias”. The media manager grouped those together, terming them “parrots” since all 3 used the same wording.

There were 2 emails that accused our staff of being “far right republicans” but we know by chance that Stella has been a Democrat for decades. Otherwise we neither know nor care about the political affiliation of our staff, writers or SAAB. Politics, other than animal “rights” rarely comes up but with just a little research we thought readers might find a few political observations interesting.

Harry Truman (D) was Democrat, President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s former VP. When FDR died, Truman became president and dropped the atomic bomb on Japan, thus ending the war and becoming one of America’s most popular presidents.

It was President Truman who signed the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1952 which upheld the national origins quota system established by the Immigration Act of 1924. An excerpt of the Immigration Act, states there shall be “…suspension of entry or imposition of restrictions by the president, whenever the president finds that the entry of aliens or of any class of aliens into the United States would be detrimental to the interests of the United States." ^{{Ref #1}}

Democrat President Jimmy Carter used the Immigration and Nationality Act ^{{Ref #2}} in 1979 to keep Iranians out of the United States. President Carter also ordered that all Iranian students had to check in with the government. The result was that “Seven thousand were found in violation of their visas and a total of 15,000 Iranians were forced to leave the USA in 1979.”

A teacher-friend pointed out that young people are no longer taught American History so they can’t forget that which they never knew. Point taken.

The McCarran-Walter Act ^{{Ref #3}} requires any "applicant for immigration must be of good moral character and in agreement with the principles of our Constitution." Therefore, a logical (and knowledgeable) person must wonder if Muslim politicians can honestly swear allegiance to the U.S. Constitution? Let’s hope so because there are over one million Iranian-Americans living in the U.S. and thousands of mosques.

That calls the question - if someone rejects our religious beliefs and refutes the Constitution of the United States Of America, why would they want to live here? Oh, I forgot. With the exception of the American “Indian” (an oxymoron - a person can’t be from America and India) we all came from somewhere else. That said, The U.S. was settled by predominantly white-skinned Jewish and Christian-faith people who came for freedom, adventure, and wealth. Black-skinned people from Africa were brought here as slaves and most have assimilated and consider themselves Christian Americans.

Today we welcome immigrants from the far east, the orient, Africa, India, etc. As long as we love our country and each other, we are true to our Judeo-Christian religious foundations.

One of our American “breed” characteristics is to Love Thy Neighbor. Compassion and love for our fellow man is part of human character. Look it up. It is written in our American “Book of Standards” - the Bible says love thy neighbor and forgive thine enemy.

To be otherwise would be like a Cocker Spaniel attack dog… a hound that won’t hunt … an Old English that won’t herd or a Great Dane that runs from a challenge. So be proud of your European heritage as you hug your best friend.

Be respectful of all beliefs but be careful when you open your door to strangers.
